Nebraska Wesleyan University is an independent liberal arts institution with a 50-acre campus. Founded in 1887, it maintains its relation to the Nebraska Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Approximately 1600 students attend Nebraska Wesleyan full time, in addition to nearly 250 students who are enrolled in selected evening degree programs, and another 200+ students enrolled in master’s degrees. Academic programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) are organized into five divisions: fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, professional and social sciences. CLAS also offers foundation courses for future study in professional fields, including dentistry, medicine, law, engineering, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, theology and veterinary science. Programs in University College include Wesleyan Advantage (selected evening undergraduate degrees), Wesleyan Honors Academy (high school dual enrollment), and master’s degrees in historical studies, forensic science, and nursing.
Since 1914, the University has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Academic programs are accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the National Association of Schools of Music, the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, the Council on Social Work Education, and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. The University is approved by the University Senate of The United Methodist Church; the education program is approved by the Nebraska Department of Education; and the chemistry program is approved by the American Chemical Society.
